Avant de partir

Depuis l'aéroport

Yangon International Airport (RGN) is about 30-45 minutes from downtown. The official taxi counter offers fixed-price trips to the city center for 10,000-15,000 MMK ($5-8 USD). You can also negotiate with drivers outside, but using the counter is easiest.

Se déplacer

Downtown Yangon's grid layout is very walkable for exploring the colonial architecture. However, sidewalks are often crowded or broken, and crossing streets requires caution due to traffic. Distances between major neighborhoods (e.g., Downtown to Shwedagon) are best covered by taxi.

Conseils sur place

  • Dress modestly for pagodas: Shoulders and knees must be covered. Sarongs (longyis) are often available to rent at major sites like Shwedagon if needed.
  • Carry small denomination Kyat notes: Many small vendors, tea shops, and taxis cannot change large bills. 1000, 500, and 200 MMK notes are most useful.
  • Remove shoes AND socks before entering any temple, pagoda, or someone's home. Leave them at the designated racks; they will be safe.
