Indulás előtt

A repülőtérről

From Mariscal Lamar Airport (CUE), the easiest way to the city center is by taxi. The official airport taxi desk inside arrivals offers fixed-rate fares of approximately $6-$8 to El Centro. The ride takes 15-20 minutes. There is no direct public bus from the airport terminal; you would need to walk to the main road.

Közlekedés a városban

The historic center (El Centro) is extremely walkable and best explored on foot. Most major attractions, plazas, and restaurants are within a 20-minute walk of each other. The city is built on a grid, making navigation easy. Be cautious of uneven cobblestones.

Helyi tippek

  • For the best Panama hat, look for the woven signature of the master weaver inside the crown and buy from a reputable shop like Homero Ortega or a certified vendor at the museum. A true 'superfino' can cost several hundred dollars.
  • Always carry a light jacket or sweater, even on sunny days. Cuenca's weather can change rapidly from warm sun to cool rain or wind, especially in the afternoon ('la hora de la chompa').
  • Take a 'chiva' (open-air party bus) tour for a fun, noisy, and uniquely Ecuadorian way to see the city's highlights and enjoy views from Mirador de Turi, often with music and canelazo (a warm spiced drink).
