Traditional Mehanas

Many traditional restaurants have live 'starogradska' (old city) music in the evenings; it's part of the experience, not just background noise.

Dzień 3: Matka Canyon (wycieczka jednodniowa)

30 min by car or taxi, 45 min by public bus (line 60).

A stunning natural escape just southwest of Skopje, where the Treska River has carved a deep canyon through dramatic limestone cliffs. It's a haven for hiking, rock climbing, and exploring medieval monasteries and caves.

Najważniejsze: Boat tour to Vrelo Cave, Hiking trails along the canyon rim, St. Andrew's Monastery on the lake shore, Kayaking or canoeing on the reservoir

Jeśli masz jeszcze jeden dzień: Lake Ohrid

2.5 - 3 hours by car or bus. To już poza planem na 3 dni: lepiej poświęcić na to cały dzień, niż wciskać w jeden z nich.

A UNESCO World Heritage site often called the 'Jerusalem of the Balkans' for its wealth of medieval churches. Its incredibly clear, ancient waters and charming old town make it a must-visit from Skopje.

Najważniejsze: Ohrid Old Town and Samuel's Fortress, St. John at Kaneo church, Plaoshnik archaeological site, Boat trip on the lake or visit to Bay of the Bones museum

Przed wyjazdem

Z lotniska

Skopje International Airport (SKP) is 25km east of the city. The most reliable option is a taxi, which should cost a fixed 1800 MKD (approx. €30) to the city center. Pre-book a transfer or use the Vardar Express shuttle bus (250 MKD, about €4), which runs every hour to the main bus station.

Poruszanie się po mieście

The main tourist areas—Centar, the Old Bazaar, and Debar Maalo—are very walkable and best explored on foot. Distances between key sights are short, but the terrain can be hilly, especially around Kale Fortress.

Lokalne wskazówki

  • For the best views of the city and the 'Skopje 2014' skyline, hike up to the Kale Fortress just before sunset. The walk is short but steep, and the golden light on the statues is spectacular.
  • Don't just eat in the main square. The best and most authentic Macedonian food is in the small, family-run 'mehanas' tucked in the alleys of the Old Bazaar, like Destan or Stara Kuka.
  • Carry small change in MKD. Public bathrooms, small market purchases, and tips for waitstaff (rounding up the bill is customary) are much easier with coins and small bills.
