Vor der Reise
Vom Flughafen
Muscat International Airport (MCT) is about 30-40 km from the city center. The official airport taxi (Mwasalat) to Mutrah/Al Khuwair costs approximately 12-15 OMR. Cheaper option: Take the public bus (Route A1) for just 0.5 OMR to Ruwi Bus Station, running every 30 minutes.
Unterwegs in der Stadt
The city is very spread out. Individual neighborhoods like Mutrah Corniche or Shatti Al Qurum beachfront are pleasant for walks, but you cannot walk between districts. Pedestrian infrastructure is basic outside of specific developed areas.
Tipps von Einheimischen
- Always carry small change (coins and 1/4, 1/2 Rial notes) for parking. Manned parking ("parking boys") is common in busy areas like Mutrah; a tip of 200-500 baisa (0.2-0.5 OMR) is expected.
- Friday is the holy day. Most shops, including the souq, are closed in the morning and reopen around 4 PM. Plan museum visits, wadi trips, or resort time for Friday mornings.
- Download the 'OTaxi' app. It's Oman's official ride-hailing service, often more reliable than trying to flag a taxi on the street, and it uses fixed meters.
