Antes de ir
Desde el aeropuerto
Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) is about 50km from the city center. The official airport taxi fare to Plateau is fixed at 15,000-20,000 XOF (€23-30). A cheaper option is the shuttle bus to the city's Gare Routière de Petersen (2,500 XOF), then a taxi to your final destination.
Cómo moverse
The Plateau city center is fairly walkable, with sidewalks and key sights close together. Other neighborhoods like Almadies are more spread out, requiring taxis or rideshares to get around.
Consejos de la zona
- Learn a few Wolof phrases. A simple 'Salaam aleikum' (hello) or 'Jërejëf' (thank you) will open doors and earn you smiles far more than French alone.
- For the best grilled fish, head to the beach in Yoff or Ouakam in the late afternoon and pick a dibiterie where the locals are eating. Point to the fish you want, and it will be cooked fresh for you.
- Always carry small denominations of CFA francs (XOF). Large bills are often difficult to break for taxis, market stalls, and street vendors.
