Discover Belfast
Belfast has reinvented itself. The city that built the Titanic in the early 20th century and lived through decades of conflict during the Troubles is now one of the most rewarding city breaks in the UK and Ireland: compact, friendly, full of history and with a food and music scene that punches well above its size.
The story of the Titanic is told in spectacular fashion at Titanic Belfast, in the shipyards where the liner was built. In the west of the city, the murals and peace walls of the Falls and Shankill roads are sobering reminders of the recent past, best understood on a black taxi tour with a local guide. In between lie Victorian pubs, the grand City Hall, the lively St George's Market and the Cathedral Quarter's bars and live music.
Belfast is also the perfect base for exploring Northern Ireland. The Causeway Coast, with the Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede and the Dark Hedges, is a classic day trip, and the Mourne Mountains and Game of Thrones filming locations are within easy reach.
